Summer Tourney - Round 3

Bob Sherry had a win a and draw versus Pat Mazzillo this week to take a clear 1 point lead in the Kenilworth Summer Tournament.

Pat, John Moldovan, Aleksey Senyatkin and Antonio Altamirano are tied for 2nd.

Correction

Antonio & Andy Altamirano split their 2 games in round 2. So, the leaders entering round 3 were Bob Sherry and Pat Mazzillo, with 2.5 points.

Summer Tournament Week 2

Three more players enter the Summer tournament to bring the current total to 22. I have decided to add an U1200 prize to the tournament this year, so the new prize structure will be 1st 55%, 2nd 25%, 3rd 10% U 1200 10%, prize may be rounded to the nearest dollar. There were 12 games played this week. Antonio Altamirano, Bob Sherry and John Moldovan each winning twice. The new leader is Antonio Altamirano with 3 points, followed by Bob Sherry and Pat Mazzillo with 2.5 each, John Moldovan is in 4th place with 2 pts.

Welcome to the 2012 Summer Tournament. After 1 week we have 19 players, and more are expected. There were 11 games played, the current leaders are Pat Mazillo and Alexsy Senyatkin are the current Leaders with 2 points each, Rich Lewis is in 3rd with 1.5.

Kenilworth Summer Tourney Starts Thursday

The Kenilworth Chess Club's fun, friendly, yet highly competitive Summer Tournament starts Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.

Here are the rules :
  • Entry Fee is $5.00.
  • The tournament will run from June 14th through August 30th.
  • The event is not rated.
  • The time control is G/60.
  • G/55+5 (delay) may be used if there is mutual agreement between paired players. Increment settings are not allowed.
  • You may play anyone who is entered. The first time you play an opponent, the lower rated or unrated player has White. In subsequent games against the same opponent you alternate colors.
  • You may not play the same opponent more than four times in the tournament.
  • You get one point for a win, one half point for a draw, and zero for a loss.
  • You may play as many or as few games as you like, but no more than two in one night. The more you play the more points you can win.
  • All games are to be played at the Kenilworth Chess Club during normal operating hours.
  • The winner is the person who has the most points at the end of the tournament.
  • The prizes are 60% for first place, 30% for second, and 10% for third.
  • If there is more than 1 section, you may only play others in your section.
  • If both players are unrated or have identical ratings, they toss for initial color.
LM Mark Kernighan won last year and in 2005. Other past winners of this popular, unrated event include LM Scott Massey (2004), Greg Tomkovich (2006), Ari Minkov (2007, 2010), John Moldovan (2008) and Ian Mangion (2009).

Massey Lecture On Alekhine, Part 2

LM Scott Massey will be giving part 2 of his lecture on Alexander Alekhine this Thursday (June 7) in Kenilworth. The years 1927-1946 will be covered.
