Club Championship Proposals
To speed the process of selecting a Kenilworth Club Championship format for 2010, I have prepared three proposals for consideration:
#1. A 5-round Swiss open to all members.
It would :
- Run from January 14th thru February 11th.
- Have a $10 entry fee.
- Be Rated/Non-rated as determined by voting at the Dec.17th Business Meeting.
#2 A two-sectioned tournament: Open & U1900
It would:
- Start January 14th.
- Have a $10 entry fee.
- Be Rated/Non-rated as determined by voting at the Dec.17th Business Meeting.
The Open Section would have a maximum 8 players & be a Round-Robin/Double RR of 7 rounds or less.
The U1900 Section would be a 7-round Swiss.
#3 An 8-player/RR with no entry fee, starting April 8th.
The following players would qualify:
1. The 2009 Club Champion (Yaacov Norowitz)
2. The 2009 Ellner Memorial winner (Mark Kernighan)
3. The 2009 Summer Tournament winner (Ian Mangion)
4. The 2009 Sy Fish Memorial winner (Steve Stoyko)
5. Highest-rated non-winning member (Scott Massey)
6. Winner of the Kenilworth Qualifier *
7. 2nd place finisher from the Kenilworth Qualifier *
8. 3rd place finisher from the Kenilworth Qualifier *
* This new event would be a 4 or 5-round swiss in Jan-Feb. with a $10 or $15 entry fee.
If necessary, the KCC officers would select players (based on USCF rating & results in the events listed), to fill any spots remaining.

Hi John:
I can't make it to the meeting this evening, however, I did want to comment on the potential club champioinship format. Whatever the evetual format for the event, I personally would like to see a rated tournment that is open to all (i.e., even if there is an elite group that plays for the ultimate championship, there should be a preliminary qualifier that is open to all club members). Thanks.

Glen,
The 2010 Kenilworth Chess Club Championship will a USCF-rated, 5-round swiss with a G/90 time control.
The entry fee will be $10 + a $5 anti-forfeit deposit.
KCC membership & USCF Membership are required.
The event will begin January 14th & is scheduled to run through February 11th.
Games will start at 8:20 p.m. each week.
