Consultation Resumes Tonight

The 2011 Kenilworth Consultation Game will be resumed tonight, when White's sealed move will be revealed at 8:15 or 8:30 p.m.

The 21st Kenilworth Chess Club Championship will begin on Thursday, January 12th, 2012 and run through February 9th, 2012. Here are the details :

Time Control: G/85+5 second delay. Analog clocks must be set to G/85, per new USCF rules.
Rounds to start at 8:20 p.m. every Thursday, for the duration of the event.
Prizes : TBA
EF: $10 entry fee + $5 anti-forfeit deposit + dues (= $30 for most players)
KCC & USCF memberships are required (KCC dues for 2012 are $7.50 for those age 17 or less, $10 for those age 65+, $15 for everyone else)

19 players took part in the 20th Championship, which was won by NM Ken Chieu.

Championships Mis-numbered

The Kenilworth Championships for the years 2005-2011 were erroneously numbered as championships 15-21, instead of the correct 14-20.

The 2012 event will be the 21st Club Championship.

Sorry it took us 6.5 years to discover the error.

Business Minutes Addendum

Greg Tomkovich's present term as Trustee is not expiring. Therefore, his new term will run 2013-2015 and there will be no trustee election in 2012.

Lou Sturniolo will begin his 3-year term (2012-14, deferred from last year) in January. Pat Mazzillo's term will run through Dec. 2013.

Business Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the Kenilworth Chess Club's 2011 Business Meeting:

- The business meeting was delayed for 30 minutes, until at least half of the membership (required by rule) was present. The meeting commenced at 8:45 p.m.

- Members in attendance included Joe Renna, Geoff McAuliffe, Greg Tomkovich, Pat Mazzillo, Lou Sturniolo, Mark Kernighan, Jack McCorkell, Ted Mann, Joe Azzarello, Bert Shiffman, Kevin Chen, Ziggy Bliznikas, Bob Sherry and John Moldovan.

- The following officers were elected by acclamation:

President: Ian Mangion
Vice President: Joe Renna
Treasurer and Tournament Director: Geoff McAuliffe
Secretary: John Moldovan

- Greg Tomkovich was re-elected (by acclamation) to another term as Trustee.

- USATE sponsorship in the amount of one full entry fee ($145?) was approved. Funds will be divided between teams that contain 4 KCC members and use KCC (or Kenilworth) in the team name.

- The 2012 Club Championship will be USCF-rated but will otherwise use the same 5-SS format as 2010. Prizes (trophies and/or cash) will be determined by a vote of those playing, prior to the event.

The swiss format and alternating years of unrated, rated will be reviewed at next year's Business Meeting.

- Preliminary plans for the KCC's 40th Anniversary were announced! There will be a tournament (in the spring), a party in late May, and, hopefully, a picnic (probably mid or late September).

- Treasurer Geoff McAuliffe announced the club had a $49 profit in 2011.

- A donation to the Kenilworth Recreation Department was approved.

- A written change to the Club Constitution, with Trustees replacing Members At Large in the organization structure, will be drafted by Greg Tomkovich and put to a members' vote at the January 12th meeting.

Business Meeting Re-scheduled

The KCC's Business Meeting scheduled for Dec. 29th will now be held on Dec. 22, along with our Holiday Party.

Tonight's Match at W. Orange Postponed

The West Orange Chess Club will be closed tonight, due to the effects of Saturday's snowstorm.

Therefore, the Karpovs-West Orange and Hamilton-Essex County College matches have been postponed.

Team captains should contact each other and GSCL President John Hagerty about re-scheduling.

Matches at Kenilworth, Rahway and Branchburg are still scheduled for Thursday.

Fish Memorial Swiss Resumes Thursday

If you need to take a bye, please let TD Geoff McAuliffe know before the next round is paired.

Late joins will be accepted until the end of round 2.

Round 3 will be played on October 20th. Round 4 is 10/27. The event concludes November 10th.

Stoyko & Massey To Lecture

The Kenilworth Chess Club will be hosting two lectures this fall.

On September 22nd, 6-time NJ Champion Steve Stoyko will speak about "Bishop Endings" and, on November 17th, 12-time KCC Champion Scott Massey will talk about World Champion "Alexander Alekhine".

Admission to each lecture is $5.

Prizes: 1st place 30% of EF; 2nd place 20% of EF;
          3rd place, U2050, U1750, U1525 each 10% of EF.

If there are 10 players, 1st place would get $30, 2nd place would receive $20. 3rd, U2050, U1750 & U1525 would be awarded $10 each.

With just one week left to go in the summer tournament Mark Kernighan(9.5) has a 2 point lead over John Moldovan(7.5). Mark beat Bert Shiffman , while John did not play. The battle for 2nd and 3rd is still hot, with Greg Tomkovich (7) winning over Joe Renna, and Ian Mangion(6) beating Max Sherer. Still in the running are Geoff McAuliffe(5.5) who was idle and Bert Shiffman (5).
In the U1200 section Andy Altamirano(13) beat Joe Azzarello(9.5) and has a 2 point lead over Aleksy Senyatkin(11)who beat Leticia and Paula Sefia. Antonio Altamirano
(9.5) took 2 games from Luis Raules to tie Joe Azzarello for third. Leticia Sefia is just half a point behind with 9.

In the Open Section Mark Kernighan beat Ian Mangion and John Moldovan drew with Joe Demetrick. Mark and John are tied for first with 6.5. Greg Tomkovich beat Bert Shiffman to take sole possesion of third with 5 points. Geoff Mcauliffe drew with Joe renna and is in fourth with 4.5. Other winners included Praveen Balakrishnan, Mike Goeller, Breadon Reinoso and Chris Constantino.

In the U1200 section Joe Azzarello beat Luis Raules twice to tie for the lead with Andy Altamirano with 9 points each. Andy beat Pat Mazillo in an intersection match, which counts for him. Aleksy Senyatkin beat Antonio Altamirano and drew with Lou Sturniolo in another intersection match to put him in third place with 7 points.
Antonio beat Paula Sefia. In two intersection matches that did not count in the standings Braedon Reinoso beat Leticia Sefia, and Lou Sturniolo beat Paula.

Mark Kernighan and John Moldovan are in the lead in the open with 2.5 points, follower by Greg Tomkovich and Joe Renna with 2 each , and Ian Mangion, Don Carelli and Laukik Gadgil with 1.5. Summer Tournament Week 9

Ari Minkov continues to lead the summer tournament with 10 point, Ken chieu is in second with 8.5, Mark Kernighan is in third with 7. There is a 4 way tie for fourth with Ian Mangion, John Moldovan, Greg Tomkovich and Lou Sturniolo all with 6 points. In this weeks action, Ari Minkov beat Pat Mazillo then lost to Ken Chieu, Ken also played Greg Tomkovich and got a draw( I should have played on to try to win), Mark Kernighan beat John Moldovan, Ian Mangion beat Don Carelli, Lou Sturniolo beat Joe Renna when Joe lost track of ime and went over on the clock, and Joe Demetrick beat Don Komenicky. There are just 4 weeks left in the tournament( only 2 for me since I will be leaving for Hawaii on Aug 20). good luck all.

Four more joined the Summer Tournament this week, Glen Hart, Mike Wojico, Dan Komonicky and Colby Chen to bring the total to 18. There were 11 games played this week. Mark Kernighan beat Don Carelli, Ken Chieu beat Mike Wojico 2 times, Ari Minkov got 1.5 out of 2 from Max Sherer, John Moldovan beat Greg Tomkovich and lost to Dave Palowski, Glen Hart and Geoff McAuliffe drew, Lou Sturniolo beat Pat Mazillo, Dan Komonicky beat Joe Renna, and Joe Renna beat Colby Chen. It will not be USCF rated.

I would like to do a 7 round swiss, but everything will depend on the number of players that enter. We may end up doing a round robin. 100% of entrance fees will be given back out to the players and I will make sure that there is at least one U1700 or U1600 prize.

The Kenilworth Chess Club Championship starts next Thursday- January 14th. This year, it will be rated! The tournament will run one game per week through February 11th. USCF membership and KCC membership dues are required. Details of the tournament are as follows....

Club Championship Proposals

To speed the process of selecting a Kenilworth Club Championship format for 2010, I have prepared three proposals for consideration:

#1. A 5-round Swiss open to all members.

It would :
- Run from January 14th thru February 11th.
- Have a $10 entry fee.
- Be Rated/Non-rated as determined by voting at the Dec.17th Business Meeting.

#2 A two-sectioned tournament: Open & U1900

It would:
- Start January 14th.
- Have a $10 entry fee.
- Be Rated/Non-rated as determined by voting at the Dec.17th Business Meeting.

The Open Section would have a maximum 8 players & be a Round-Robin/Double RR of 7 rounds or less.

The U1900 Section would be a 7-round Swiss.

#3 An 8-player/RR with no entry fee, starting April 8th.

The following players would qualify:

1. The 2009 Club Champion (Yaacov Norowitz)
2. The 2009 Ellner Memorial winner (Mark Kernighan)
3. The 2009 Summer Tournament winner (Ian Mangion)
4. The 2009 Sy Fish Memorial winner (Steve Stoyko)
5. Highest-rated non-winning member (Scott Massey)
6. Winner of the Kenilworth Qualifier *
7. 2nd place finisher from the Kenilworth Qualifier *
8. 3rd place finisher from the Kenilworth Qualifier *

* This new event would be a 4 or 5-round swiss in Jan-Feb. with a $10 or $15 entry fee.

If necessary, the KCC officers would select players (based on USCF rating & results in the events listed), to fill any spots remaining.

Business Meeting & Holiday Party

Tomorrow night (Thurs. 12/17) the Kenilworth Chess Club will be having its Annual Business Meeting & Holiday Party.

The meeting will get underway at 8:15 p.m. As usual, we will be voting on the Club Championship's format and electing officers. John Moldovan will be stepping down following 2 terms as President.

Pizza and soda will be supplied for the party. Members may bring chips, salsa, pretzels, cheese, crackers, ice, milk, paper plates, plastic spoons, etc. No alcohol is permitted.

A Handicap Partner tournament will also be held.

This will be our last gathering of 2009. The club will be closed Christmas Eve & New Year's Eve.

Library Policy, Scott's Lecture

For reasons unknown, a 1st-time visitor was allowed to sign-out a book from the Kenilworth CC's library last week. This incident comes on the heels of a new member (of just a few months) checking-out a book during our Summer Tournament and never returning. Adding insult to injury... the latter tome was one I had donated!

Therefore, from now until the Annual Business Meeting on December 17th - when we will formally address this issue -, only active members who have been part of the club for at least one full year will be allowed to borrow books.

On a brighter note, Scott Massey will be giving his lecture on "How To Improve At Chess" tonight. Admittance is $5. Hope you can attend.

Summer Tournament Final Round

Ian Mangion won the Summer Tournament with 14 points despite losing to Mark Kernighan, who had just one second left on his clock. This type of situation is exactly why I hate the 5 second delay. Mark ended up in second place with 12 points. In the battle for third, I beat Pat Mazillo and Mike Wojcio to bring my total to 11, while John Moldovan lost to Max Scherer. In his second game against Max, John was up 2 pawns, but was unable to convert the win and had to settle for a draw, bringing his total to 11 also, so John and I split third prize. Congratulation to the winners, and thanks to all who played.

Ian Mangion has clinched first place in this years summer tournamet with wins over Tedd Mann and Mike Wojico, combined with Mark Kernighan losing to Dave Pawlowski. This was Mark's first loss of the tournament. With one week remaining Ian has 14 points and Mark as 11 with a maximum of 2 games a night. John Moldovan won his game against Mikhail Krugkiak to give him 10.5 points. Don Carelli beat Greg Tomkovich to bring his total to 7 and Greg remained in 4th place with 9. Max Schererh, Pat Mazillo and Joe renna also won their games.

Summer Tournament Week 10

As we head into the final 3 weeks of the summer tournament We have a tie for first place and onlt 1/2 a point between 3rd and 4th. Ian Mangion played simultaneously against Max Scherer and Joe Renna, drawing Max and beating Joe to bring his total to 10. Meanwhile Mark Kernighan, still undefeated, beat Don Carrelli for his 10th point. John Moldovan also played simultaneously against Tedd Mann and Geoff McAuliffe getting a win vs Tedd and a draw vs Geoff, to give him a total of 8. I stayed half a point in front of John in third place by getting a draw with Dave Pawlowski.

Minutes of the December 11th Business Meeting

1. A $50 back-payment to Geoff McAuliffe for directing the 2007 & 2008 Club Championships was approved.

2. The purchase of 4-5 cheap, plastic, tournament-size chess sets & two digital chess clocks was approved.
3. The sponsorship of USATE entries was eliminated.
4. A dues-reduction from $20 per year to $15 was approved. Junior/Student dues were reduced from $10 to $7.50 per annum.
5. A Senior Citizen discount for KCC memberships was approved. The dues for persons 65+ will be $10.
6. A motion to allow pro-rated dues-refunds, if the KCC moves to Tuesday nights during 2009, was approved.
7. A vote on forming a 501c non-profit corporation was postponed.
8. Greg Tomkovich resigned as Vice-President.
9. Ian Mangion, Mark Kernighan, Don Carrelli, Lou Sturniolo & Max Sherer tabbed as V.P. nominees. Kernighan, Carrelli & Sturniolo declined to run.
10. Mangion elected Vice-President by a 12-3 count.
11. John Moldovan, Geoff McAuliffe & Joe Renna re-elected to their posts. All were un-opposed.
12. A motion to use old, donated trophies for 2009 Club Championship prizes was approved.
13. Members voted 7-6 with 4 abstentions to run the 2009 Club Championship as an unrated tournament.
14. Given the past problem with last-minute entries, the TD was given authority to select the 2009 Club Championship format.

1. The KCC rejected the Froelich Building on North Avenue in Westfield as a possible future site because a replacement building in Kenilworth had been secured.

Minutes of the Emergency Meeting

Minutes of the emergency business meeting held on Thursday, July 17th :

Members were informed that the Kenilworth Community Center will be demolished in the coming months to make room for a new police station.
Mike Wojcio revealed this would likely occur in the October 2008-June 2009 time frame but warned there is a 10-20% chance the club’s final week at the center could be in September 2008. He will contact Kenilworth mayor Fiaminga and other officials about a getting replacement building in the borough and try to pin-point the eviction date.
A show of hands indicated most members would be willing to meet on another weeknight, should Thursday not be available at our new site, and in another Union County town. Geoff McAuliffe suggested that if a different night was selected, we could meet at the new facility and Kenilworth, until the center closes.
Jack McCorkell will investigate options in Cranford (which is home or former home to 6 of our members) while Howard Osterman does so in Westfield, Clark and Scotch Plains. Bill Sokolosky will be looking into some Kenilworth spots.

Emergency Meeting Thursday

Member-At-Large Mike Wojcio has informed me that Kenilworth will be expanding the police headquarters and demolishing the Community Center.

At the moment, we do not know when this is going to occur or if the town will be providing another location for the club. Regardless, we need to develop a contingency plan. So, there will be an emergency business meeting for Thursday 7/17, at 8:15 p.m.

P.S. - Given, Mike W.'s long history as President and experience in dealing with the politicians, I urge you to heed his advice and not say anything inflammatory to any Kenilworth official.

Business Meeting Postponed

From KCC President Joe Demetrick :

Due to the weather and the importance of some of the issues to be raised at the annual business meeting (Dues, Club Championship format, Officer Elections), I am going to re-schedule the annual business meeting to Thursday, December 27th so that we can get as many people as possible to attend. The annual Holiday party will continue to be held next Thursday, December 20th. The club will provide pizza and soda. Please feel free to bring other food (chips, cookies, etc.) to the party. As a reminder, alcohol is not permitted at the Kenilworth Community Center.

Tonight is designated as an open night, the Community Center should be open for people who would like to go. No scheduled events are planned.

With one week to go in the Summer Tournament Ari Minkov beat John Moldovan to clinch at least a tie for first place with 13 point. Last years winner, Greg Tomkovich beat Pat Mazillo to keep alive slim hopes of a first place tie with 11 points. Mark Kernighan drew with Ed Selling by repeating the position with seconds left on his clock to take sole possesion of third place with 9.5. John moldovan is still in the hunt for a cash prize with 9 points. In other action Max Shcerer and Joe Renna split 2 games.

We don't normally associate chessplayers with politicians, however there have been a number of politicians who have also been into playing chess. Among some of the more notable people in this group are Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, and Vladimir Lenin. Even some of the founding fathers of America played. This group included George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. In this lecture, we will analyze a handful of games were one of the players was also a politician. Below, I have provided the scores to the games that I intend to analyze with you so that YOU can come prepared with your own analysis. I also intend to throw in a special surprise at the beginning of the event.

WARNING: I intend to make this lecture more in the spirit of Andy Soltis's "Chess to Enjoy" than that of a typical John Nunn book (but if you feel like bringing in homemade Fritz/Nunn type of analysis than feel free to do so). The Kenilworth Chess Club is fortunate to have two separate rooms to conduct its usual activities. If anyone has a problem with the theme or arrangement of this lecture than I strongly suggest that they "do their thing" in the smaller room, which has previously been done on multiple occasions under similar circumstances involving lectures. Even if there is a non-chess meeting that is initially taking place in that room, those people typically leave before 9:00 pm, which gives the club members plenty of time to avoid the lecture (and you can even find out ahead of time if there is going to be a meeting in that smaller room that night).

Minutes of the Kenilworth Chess Club Business Meeting on 12/22/05

Club Treasury: The club began the year with $740 and ended the year with $771 (excluding the expenses of the party held on 12/22/05)

Club Expenses: The club was contemplating buying some carbon-copy score- sheets as well as a remodeling of the cabinet.

Club Championship: It was decided to keep it at Game 90 with 5 second delay for electric clocks, trophies will continue to be awarded but may possible be smaller then the ones awarded in previous years, $25 for the entrance fee with an additional $10 deposit to ensure that no one takes more than 2 byes (the $10 will be returned if they cooperate with that condition; if a person takes an unauthorized 3rd bye they will lose that deposit and will lose games that they cannot make up after the 4th unauthorized bye. Geoff McAuliffe will direct this tournament. This tournament will consist of 2 round robin sections: an open section and an under 1800 section. It will also be unrated.

U.S. Teams: The club will allocate $150 toward people interested in forming a team and divide that $150 on the basis of the number of teams that are formed. This $150 will be reimbursed to the team(s) once they have complied with the condition of showing up and other such conditions. Only the people who are current members (for the 2006 year) in good standing are eligible to play for this team and their team name must include the phrase "Kenilworth Chess Club."

Elections: Joe Demetrick was elected president, Greg Tomkovich was elected vice-president, Geoff McAuliffe was elected treasurer, Mike Goeller was elected secretary, Pete Cavaliere was elected tournament director, Mike Wojcio, Bill Sokolosky, Howard Osterman, Mike Stallings, and Pat Mazzillo were elected members-at-large. Scott Massey was elected permanent member-at-large.

Due to the insufficient club attendance on 12-15-05, the club meeting that was supposed to have taken place on that day had been canceled. It will instead be held on 12-22-05 instead, assuming that there is a quorum and that the rest of the club agrees to it.

Due to the weather and a limited number of members present, it was decided to postpone the annual business meeting to Thursday, December 22nd. This will coincide with the Holiday Party. Hopefully, we'll be able to get through the topics (Club Championship, Elections, etc.) quickly.

For the Holiday Party, we are planning on having Pizza, Soda, Cake, and whatever else people would like to bring. See you then!

It's that time of year again! This week brings the Business Meeting and the discussion on the format of the Club Championship. I have jotted down some notes to help guide the discussion. I'll bring copies of this to the meeting on Thursday @ 8PM. These are some of the options for the format that have been kicked around, but it is certainly not intended to be all inclusive. If you have another idea on how to run the tournament please put that idea on the table. I personally believe that the growth of the Club has made the current one-section format not practical given the length of time it would take to complete.

Time Control:	G/90 (last year) or something else Time Delay Clocks (note that if it is USCF Rated – delay is preference)

Section:	Options: 1. One Section Round Robin: The current traditional format. This format has 2 key advantages. First, everyone plays in the same section for the Championship, and second that everyone plays everyone else once. This format has become somewhat untenable though due to the growth of the Club. To accommodate 15 people in the tournament, we would be looking at the tournament running at least though the early part of April if not longer. Last year, a number of people did not participate in the tournament given the commitment that it entailed. With more members, this situation could potentially be worse. A key item of a Club Championship is that it should be inclusive of as many members as possible. 2. Multiple Section Round Robin This would help alleviate the problem of the length of the tournament, though comes at the cost that not everyone would be playing for the Club Championship. A way to solve this would be to have two sections, Open and U1800. The winner of the Open Section would be declared Club Champion, and the winner of the U1800 is the U1800 Champion. Everyone is eligible to enter the Open section, however, only those in the U1800 section are eligible to be U1800 Champion. Ratings would be used from the latest printed Supplement. 3. Swiss Format This would preserve the advantage of having everyone in the same section. Also, the tournament would be of a fixed length of time. However, this format has two main drawbacks. First, everyone would not be guaranteed to play everyone else, and second, bye weeks would become substantially more difficult to manage than the Round Robin type format.

Minutes of the Kenilworth Chess Club Meeting on 12-8-05

1. Mike Stallings announced that he will accept another term if nominated, but cannot show up on a regular basis.

2. An end of the year report about the state of the club will be emailed out detailing its financial status.

3. A club meeting and elections will be held on 12-15-05. The Club Championship format, the sponsoring of a U.S. Amateur Team, and the financial status of the club are intended to be discussed.

4. The Club Championship's format will likely need to be modified. Among the proposals are an open section and/with an under 1800 section (similar to most major tournaments such as the World Open) or Swiss system.

5. A proposal to apportion between $100-$200 on the Club Team(s). A decision on this matter will be finalized at the 12-15-05 general meeting.

6. The club's treasury currently has about $700. A proposal was made not to allow it to go under $400.

Please Note: Club meetings take place on an intermittent (as opposed to a frequent) basis. Minutes of those meetings are contingent upon the number of meetings that are held and are therefore not made up on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Minutes of the Kenilworth Chess Club Meeting on 10-6-05

1. Schedule notification dispute was resolved.

2. A club business meeting will be held on December 15, 2005 and will not fall on the same day as the holiday party.

3. Budget considerations over revenues and expenditures were brought up.

4. Club championship format changes were discussed in order to address the changing numbers of the club's membership. A proposal to have both an open section and an under 1800 section was introduced.

5. Changes to the club championship prizes were introduced in order for the club to avoid losing money from it. Among the proposed changes were to use plaques instead of trophies, smaller trophies, and a rotating trophy (similar to the Stanley
Cup).

6. Mike Stallings will end his presidency when his term expires.

Rematch with W. Orange: September 22

I talked with John Hagerty of the W. Orange club and we have tentatively scheduled the 2md half of the match for Thursday, September 22 @ Kenilworth. The games will start promptly at 8PM. There will be 10 boards - G/90 (with 5 second delay if electronic clock) - in rating order. Given that the latest ratings supplement is a train wreck (players missing, ratings incorrect, etc.) we will be using ratings from the internet or the latest mailing label. Our board 1 will have Black, with colors alternating after that.

Please let me know if you have interest in participating. To be fair to all who made the trek out to W. Orange in June - first preference goes to those who participated in the 1st half of this match.

Minutes of the Kenilworth Chess Club Meeting on 8-4-05
1.Club Matches: The club is arranging to set up a match against West Orange (either for the 15 or 22 of September) and another one against Roselle.

2. Introductory Membership Offer: A $1 charge for the rest of the year for new members with an ad for it to be placed in the newspaper is being proposed.

3. Coffeemaker: A proposal for the club to invest in a coffeemaker was discussed.

4. Tentative Fall Club Schedule*: Game 30 rated tournaments to be held on October 20 and 27, lectures to be held on October 6 and November 17, 5 minute tournament on November 10, 15 minute tournament for September 29, bughouse tournament to be held on December 5, and a Christmas party for December 22.

The fall schedule for this year will include lectures by Steve Stoyko and Scott Massey, matches against the West Orange, and Roselle chess clubs, along with a rated tournament, a G/15 tournament, the 5 minute championship and a bughouse tournament. WEST ORANGE - 5, KENILWORTH - 4

On Tuesday, June 28th - we had a match against a very good, and very deep West Orange club by the score of 5-4. The depth of their team was evidenced by the fact that we played substantially up in rating on virtually every board. Special mention goes to the Kenilworth team members who won their games, Mark Kernighan on Board #2, Greg Tomkovich on Board #3, and Mike Wojcio on Board #5. Rounding out the scoring, Steve Stoyko and Joe Demetrick had draws on Boards #1 and #6 respectively. Thanks to everyone who made it out for the event! W. Orange had the event catered and there was still a good sized crowd analyzing games when I left around 11:30PM. We will be looking forward to the rematch to be played at a date TBD (likely September) in Kenilworth.

To all who played.. I would like to get the copies of the game scores for all of the games. Please email me your game in PGN format, or bring a copy to the club meeting - Thanks!

On TUESDAY, June 28th, 8PM we will be visiting the West Orange Club for a match. The format will be G/90, unrated. We're looking to get 8-10 people there, so please email or call Joe D if you can make it. We will be getting some cars to leave from Kenilworth based on how many need rides to get there... West Orange will be coming to Kenilworth in the Fall for the 2nd half of the match.

Newspaper Article: A person from the Star Ledger paper will observe the club on May 26, 2005. While he or she is there, a five-minute tournament is to be given.

Summer Tournament: Set to start the first week of June and finish the first week of September. No more than 2 games a night may be played and the same two people may not play each other more than 4 times. Whoever has the most points at the end of this tournament wins it. The entry fee is $3.00.

Club Matches: The club intends to pursue club matches against West Orange, Roselle, and Holmdel.

Fall Schedule: Set to be done during the next meeting. The next meeting will be held in August.
